Yesterday, Sept. 11th was our 6th Anniversary. We take it from our first date given we’re not married. My partner has every second Friday off, so I asked if he could somehow work this one as his day at home and he did. It was a bit of a milestone anniversary for me without going into detail. The day was a bit of a fizzer on some levels unfortunately. I wanted to do something like go out for lunch, a country drive perhaps but instead, my morning was taken up with phone calls and organising.
This is why. I received a call from the Royal Childrens Hospital saying there is an appointment available next Friday for my daughter to have some surgery done to both thumbs. I didn’t dare knock it back having had Charlotte on a waiting list for almost a year and I had to give an answer right there and then.
If only it was offered any other week, but no, I had several important things on this coming week that have now been cancelled. The operation is at 7.15am and is in Melbourne, 2 hrs drive away. So, I had to cancel things, arrange accommodation, check in with my Dad. Trains from my hometown don’t leave early enough to get us there on time, so we’ll be going overnight and staying in a hotel opposite the hospital. We’ll still travel by train.
I decided on this mode of transport because I’m sure Charlotte will be wanting full on cuddles from her Mum after the op. Her Daddy can’t make the journey, but her Grandaddy can and He can’t drive anymore due to being visually impaired. I’m a nervous train or public transport traveller despite having travelled the world, but it seems like the best option.
Everything was sorted by lunchtime or thereabouts. Then we had to go shopping, so that was the day practically gone. The evening was a different story. Peter booked a restaurant for the three of us locally. We always take Charlotte to our Anniversary dinners. It’s a lot of fun. Nice that it was local and the weather was perfect for walking, so I was able to have a few bevvies, too. I am normally the designated driver. We had Champagne and Sparkling Shiraz that cost a tad more than the $4-$10 that we normally pay! As always the restaurant served a delicious meal. I always go prepared with games and drawing material for Charlotte, so we managed a fun game of pick up sticks and snap in front of a toasty log fire. What a lovely evening we had. Charlotte was asleep in the pram within 5 minutes of leaving the restaurant due to missing her afternoon nap which is taking place more and more lately.
Today, Charlotte wanted her Nanna here and that is always a big bonus for me. My Mum helps out a lot and I thought (emphasis on the thought) I would get some good studying done, but not to be. Charlotte insisted that we all play together. There were times that I insisted that I had to do my work, too. The day was balmy and supposedly going to be 27C. Very warm for this time of year and this evening is gorgeous. Like a Summer evening, not late Winter. Some (most in fact), would say Winter began on the first of the month, but I go by the Equinox and Solstice,I’m not in any hurry for the Summer months and I’ll bet a lot of people nowadays prefer Winter to Summer given last seasons horrific fires. so we’re not yet out of Winter as far as I’m concerned. Not far to go, though.
I mentioned several posts back that I would tell you how I came to be blogging. If you’d like to click on my ‘About’ page, you will find a bit of my story there. Happy reading and it’s time to bid you adieu for this evening.
