I got to bed after midnight last night, but for very different reasons.
For several weeks now I’ve had a permanent hair colour sitting in my car. I’ve never had my hair dyed before and I chose Herbatint to minimise the chemical impact on my body. The most experimental I’ve been with my hair is to use one of those that washes out after 8 washes years ago and more recently a wash out in 36 (!) washes which had no impact whatsoever on the colour of my hair. Not a single grey hair or any other colour changed.
So, I decided to break out. The colour I chose was a lot lighter than my own and I worried that if I did it myself I’d come out looking totally ridiculous and like mutton dressed as lamb. So a phone call to my Hairdressing friend put my mind at ease somewhat when She agreed to do the dye for me.
Next problem was coordinating times. My friend is a Mother of 7 and involved in many other projects including fixing fences on the property burnt in the Feb. 7th fires and building a new home on the same property.
Finally, we hit on a good time for the two of us which was last night. No blogging for me. Just as a back up, I bought a darker colour that I would have felt more confident doing on my own in case my friend had a last minute problem. I also made an appointment with a hair salon that uses Eco friendly hair colour.
I gave my daughter the choice of coming along or staying at home. Of course, She chose to join me on the 1/2 hr journey. It was lovely having her animated 4 yr old conversation to listen to in the car: for example, with a big sniff first ‘Mmm, it smells so good breathing in the outside air‘. We’d actually just driven through some smoke and it did smell good and quite sweet.
We arrived at my friends to dogs barking and when we entered the house after being licked to death my friends husband said She had forgotton and was at a CFA meeting. I didn’t believe him, but sure enough, my friend had forgotton about my hair appointment. I had asked her if She wanted me to phone before leaving as a reminder, but was assured that She would remember. I was a little miffed initially.
So, the boys entertained my daughter and I sat chatting and having a cuppa and biccies until M arrived home. I had my backup appointment at the hairdressers today if necessary.
It wasn’t necessary and I now have a subtly different hair colour. Nice for a first timer, although a little orange for me at the moment even though I have natural orange highlights, anyway, but for the most part I’m happy with the change.
